Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany has been released from hospital after collapsing in training last week due to a meningeal irritation, sports board member Max Eberl said on Wednesday.
Kompany was taken to hospital last week after collapsing at Bayern’s training ground during a second team training session.
He missed media duties ahead of Bayern’s Champions League game against Arsenal due to a viral infection, but made it through for the 2-2 draw.
“Given the circumstances, he’s doing well,” Eberl told the broadcaster ARD Before the German Cup match against Magdeburg, which Bayern beat 6-1. “He was released from the hospital today (Wednesday). This is the biggest and best news for all of us.
“It is a meningeal irritation that caused this incident on Friday. He will now rest and take medication and I am sure very soon he will be back in touch, operating at 100 per cent.”
No date has been set for Kompany’s return, with Eberl saying the Belgian would only resume his duties once he is medically cleared, something echoed by his assistant Aaron Danks.
Speaking after the win against Magdeburg, he said: “I still don’t feel like there’s any time frame on it (when Kompany will be back). It’s definitely a really positive step on his road to recovery.
“He can be settled at home now, be closer to his family, be closer to his comfort at home, but it’s still very important that he rests and recovers. So there’s no time frame on that. Nothing that I’ve been told and I’ve been informed.
“Our doctors will continue to work closely with Vince and in due course, he will be back with us once he is fit and healthy to do so and we look forward to that day.
“But in the meantime, we just keep pushing forward as a group with the players and the staff and keep working hard.
“I haven’t spoken to him for a few days now, so I still don’t think much has changed in terms of our working relationship at the moment.
“His health is our number one priority and for us he’s still in recovery so we want him back to full health, full fitness and then join us.
“Over the next few days, weeks, I don’t know, things will start to move forward and we can start to engage in more of these conversations.
“But there’s no timeline on that right now. It’s just about his health, his recovery and him getting the time he needs.”
Danks has taken charge of the team and was on the bench for their 3-1 win at Freiburg at the weekend. Bundesliga leaders Bayern face title rivals Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
