Kurtley Beale with 95 Tests is among the last three additions to the Wallabies squad for Nations Championship Northern series, with ex Northampton Saints flyer James Ramm becomes the latest unrestricted prospect to receive a call-up.
Before the Wallabies leave Australian shores this weekend for Spring Tour games against England, Scotland, Wales and during the Nations Championship finals weekend, coach Les Kiss also added Kalani Thomas back to the touring squad.
Beale has not been selected in the Wallabies squad for two years but was recalled as Hunter Paisami withdrew from the tour for personal reasons. Earlier on Wednesday, Western Force announced that Beale has been re-signed to a training and tryout contract.
If Beale takes the field during November’s internationals, it will mark the full-back’s first Test in the gold jersey since 2021. Beale took the field in the Super Rugby AUS Grand Final, starring Western Force defeated NSW Waratahs in Perth.
Ramm has signed a contract with the Force for the upcoming Super Rugby Pacific season, homecoming in Australia after spending some time overseas with PREM Rugby. The wing also helped Northland reaching the NPC Grand Final in New Zealand, which he won Canterbury in Christchurch.
Thomas will rejoin the Wallabies are Australia A to finish his tour-match tour of the United States. Originally, Kiss went with Ryan Lonergan, Tate McDermott and the uncapped Teddy Wilson as the three halves in the group, but Thomas was added to that contingent.
“Given the unavailability of Hunter, we’re excited about what Kurtley can bring to the group,” Kiss said.
“He has 95 games worth of Test experience and although he will primarily cover the centre, he has the versatility to play a number of positions across the back line.
“Kurtley has also been in great form for the Western Force in Super Rugby Pacific and Super Rugby AUS and is excited to contribute to the environment.
“At the same time, James is a player we’ve kept a close eye on for some time and his form for Northland has been outstanding of late.
“He is someone who knows the UK very well, having had a very successful spell with Northampton and can cover multiple positions in the back line.”
The Wallabies will travel to the United Kingdom on Saturday.
