NFL survivor picks, strategy: Week 5 safe, value, and trap options

The NFL is back for Week 5 and while we may not be in the dog days, things have settled down for the long haul. As we head into October, the next benchmark is the Gratitude board. The trade deadline occurs before then, but is not the same as the MLB or NBA trade deadlines as a major measure of the season. Once we get to Thanksgiving, we hit the finals in earnest.

We’ve got a pretty good schedule for most of Week 5, but the back end could be interesting. The late afternoon schedule is simple, but highlighted by 49ers-Seahawks in Seattle. Sunday night football It features the Ravens against a surprisingly impressive Falcons team. Monday night football For many people, the preseason Super Bowl selection wraps up the week at Bills-Rams.

I’m back with the rest of Week 5 ahead of Bucs-Cowboys. Thursday night football. Survivor involves picking one team each week to win. If they beat you, if they lose you’re out in most cases. I’m in a single tank with four inlets, but it’s also a double drain tank. After taking chargers and bucks for the first two weeks, I lost one entry. I took a Bucs loss on another one but it was only one sign, so I’m still alive and no sign on the other two. I picked two Vikings picks and one Ravens pick to continue cuddling together last week.

Check out the safest picks, the best prices, and the pitfall picks below. I’ll post my own picks at the end. I’ll update on Sunday after I’ve locked in my three picks for the weekend.

I have included odds for favorites in each game FanDuel.

Cowboys (-8) over Buccaneers

The Bucs gave the Packers a hard time last week, but for now, with Baker Mayfield sidelined, Jalon Daniels isn’t a good answer. This would be a popular pick even in a short week, but it makes sense given the matchup.

Cowboys over Bucs would be a popular pick, so if you want to get really crazy, you can roll the dice with the Falcons if Lamar Jackson doesn’t play. On Sunday, he was pinned at the ankle and “Out chance“Playing. If you want to get a little nuts at this point, pick the Falcons if Lamar is inactive. The downside to this pick is Sunday Night Football. If we don’t know exactly what Jackson’s level is before 1 p.m. games, you should probably stay away.”

The Eagles will be out both Saquon Barkley and Tank Bigsby. With Devonta Smith questionable for Sunday, it’s easy to see why people are rooting for the Jaguars this weekend. It’s a London game, so it raises all kinds of red flags.

I don’t want to spend all three picks on the Cowboys, but there’s a non-zero chance it happens. The short week offers a banner, but the Bucks are really bad right now. If the Cowboys go down in this game, it could be a week where many Survivor pools explode.
