Zak Chelli to fight on Sky Sports: From classroom to the ring – the supply teacher ready for Zuffa Boxing bow | Boxing News

Zak Chelli has signed with Zuffa Boxing and will fight Sky Sports.

Chelli, the fighting school teacher from Fulham, has signed a multi-fight contract with the company.

The Londoner is coming off the best win of his career, when he produced a stunning knockout to shock David Morrell and capture the attention of the boxing world.

Cuba’s Morrell is a top-class lightweight who previously held regular WBA titles at 168lbs and 175lbs. He went the distance in a competitive fight with standout David Benavidez in a WBC Interim Championship clash as well.

Chelli are now looking to strengthen their way to the top of the division. His Zuffa Boxing debut will be announced soon.

Zak Chelli insists he does not see Ben Whittaker as his ‘competition’ and claims he stripped the Olympic silver medalist during a past sparring session.

A former British champion, Chelli defeated Jack Cullen to win the Lonsdale belt and the Commonwealth title.

Chelli was previously an English super middleweight titleholder, defeating Germaine Brown in 2022 to win that belt. He also upset highly touted American Anthony Sims Jr.

Defeated by Callum Simpson in their main event at the Oakwell Stadium in Barnsley, he bounced back to defeat Adam Hepple and win the English lightweight title.

He joins Zuffa Boxing’s vibrant lightweight stable that includes Radivoje “Hot Rod” KalajdzicJoe Ward and more.

“I’m grateful for this opportunity. Zuffa is looking for fighters they believe in and I’m proud to be in that category,” said Chelli.

After his huge upset win over David Morrell, Zak Chelli would like to fight Callum Smith next and claims “maybe he’s scared”.

“I’m excited that my fights will be on display once again Sky Sports. I have fought many times at Sky and they have always treated me well.

“I want to make the fights that the fans want to see. I’m ready to fight anyone, anytime, anywhere. I’ve proven that throughout my career.”

Chelli, who works as a supply teacher at a secondary school in Surrey, stunned the boxing world with his Rocky-like KO for the ages.

He accepted the fight with heavily favored Morrell two weeks later and then pulled off one of the biggest upsets in modern boxing history, overcoming an early deficit to knock out two-division titleholder David Morrell in the 10th round.
