Wilson Staff Model Ball Lab: The Underdog Ball That Keeps Shining In The Data

U 2026 Wilson Staff Model ($49.99/dozen) scored 90/100 (A-grade, Recommended). Perfectly good ball rate, strong weight and diameter consistency, with C-graded compression symmetry as the only soft spot on an otherwise solid card.

U Wilson Staff Model is a four-piece, urethane golf ball priced at $49.99 per dozen, sitting below the $57.99 price tag of most “tour-level” competitors. Wilson has been making golf balls for over a century and the Staff Model is their flagship. What Ball Lab can tell you is what’s going on inside the box. We measured weight, diameter, compression, roundness and balance through 36 balls and three boxes to give the manufacturing side of that picture.

Here’s what 2026 Wilson Staff Model looks like under the microscope.

Wilson Staff Model

Pros

  • Perfect quality control – 100% good ball rate in all 36 balls, zero defects

  • Weight consistency graded A- and diameter consistency graded B+

cons

  • C-rated compression symmetry – above field average, but a bit below what you’d typically expect from a Foremost-manufactured product

  • Box 1 was noticeably softer than boxes 2 and 3

Our Verdict

The Wilson Staff Model 2026 earns a Quality Score of 90 and an A-grade: Recommended. Good Ball Rate reached a perfect 100 percent with zero defects on all 36 balls. The weight consistency classified in A- and the diameter consistency in B +, two of the strongest physical results in this series of tests. What keeps the score is the compression symmetry that has classified in C with a median of 2.5 points against a field average of 1.9. That result is worth noting since the Staff Model is manufactured by Foremost in Taiwan, a factory that typically produces tighter symmetry numbers. At $49.99 per dozen, the Wilson Staff Model earns its recommendation.

The test results

U 2026 Wilson Staff Model scored 90 and earned an A- grade: Recommended. The score is built on a record without major defects and physical consistency metrics that rank among the strongest results in this series of tests with compression symmetry being the only category that pulls the profile.

The good Ball Rate has reached a perfect 100 percent. All 36 balls passed inspection with zero defects noted in core, layers and covers.

The consistency of the weight classified at A-, one of the best results in the database for this metric. The range was only 1.6013 to 1.6067 ounces in all 36 balls, a remarkably narrow window. The consistency of the diameter classified at B +, also a strong result. The sample showed consistent seam bias with 32 of 36 balls measuring thicker across the seam than at the poles.

The compression consistency is classified at B with a delta of 8.5 points and a spread that goes from 90.3 to 98.8. Box 1 was noticeably softer than Boxes 2 and 3, which contained a lot of that spread. Pull from a single box and the story is likely tighter.

The symmetry of compression classified to C with a median of 2.5 points against a field average of 1.9. This result is worth pointing out specifically because the The staff model it is made by Foremost in Taiwan, a factory known for producing tight numbers of symmetry between the brands it manufactures. UC here is below what you typically see from Foremost-made products and is the primary reason that the score does not go higher.

At $49.99 per dozen, the Wilson Staff Model earn a recommendation. The results of the consistency of weight and diameter are impressive. Compression symmetry is the number worth looking at.

Compression

Compression is a measure of how much force is required to deform a golf ball. The higher the number, the steadier the dance. Consistency is important because a ball that compresses differently from shot to shot produces different results from shot to shot. Ball Lab measures each ball individually and tracks both the mean and spread within the sample.

U 2026 Wilson Staff Model average of 96, in the extra-firm range of our database and among the firmest balls in this test series alongside the Titleist Pro V1x. The compression consistency is classified at B with a delta of 8.5 points and a spread that runs from 90.3 to 98.8, better than the database average of 9.6. A pattern worth noting: Box 1 went consistently smoother than Boxes 2 and 3 which accounted for a significant portion of that spread. Taken in isolation, Boxes 2 and 3 tell a tighter story.

Ball Lab also measures compression symmetry which tracks how well compression is distributed across three points on each individual ball. Is each ball self-consistent? U The staff model average 2.5 points of deviation against an average field of 1.9, ranking at C. For a first-manufactured product, which is a softer result than we would typically expect from this factory. Individual balls show more variation in internal compression than we see from the strongest ones in the database.

The graphs below detail the compression measurements in our sample.

Weight

Weight consistency is another Ball Lab metric. Even small differences between a dozen balls can result in an inconsistent ball flight. Ball Lab weighs each ball to four decimal places.

U 2026 Wilson Staff Model average 1.6030 ounces in 36 balls, at the lightest end of the database. Each ball cleared the USGA maximum of 1.6205 ounces with a range of 1.6013 to 1.6067 and a standard deviation of 0.0012. This is one of the tightest weight ranges in this test series and a significant data point for a ball at any price. No individual ball was marked as an outlier.

Weight consistency is rated A-.

The graphs below detail the weight measurements in our sample.

Diameter

A ball that is not uniform in shape can move offline on the putting green or produce an inconsistent flight in the air. Ball Lab measures each ball in multiple axes to get a true picture of its shape.

U 2026 Wilson Staff Model average of 1.6804 inches, right at the USGA minimum of 1.680, with a roundness deviation of 0.0013 inches. Every dance broke the minimum. The sample showed a consistent seam bias: 32 of 36 balls measured larger across the seam than at the poles, a pattern that was present in all three boxes. That said, the overall spread was narrow with an SD of only 0.00032 across the full sample.

Ball Test Results 2026

In the 2026 MyGolfSpy Golf Ball Test, the Wilson Staff Model he presents himself as one of the most interesting artists in the field. The two Wilson models, Staff Model and Staff Model X, finished tied with each other as the fastest 7-iron balls at high swing speeds, ahead of the Chrome Tour X and every other ball in the test.

At half swing speed, the The staff model earned a spot as a top pick in the mid-spin category. He finished in the top statistical group for iron distance while swinging above the field average, a combination that is harder to find than it seems. He was also in the top six balls for driver ball speed at that speed.

U The staff model it was a recommended choice at both mid and low swing speeds, appearing in the mid-spin category at both. For golfers looking for a ball that delivers consistent iron speed, above-average spin and competitive distance across multiple swing speeds, the 2026 ball test data on the Wilson Staff Model makes a strong case.

Ball Lab Report Card

Each Quality Score is a weighted average of five grades: good bounce rate, compression consistency, compression symmetry, diameter consistency, weight consistency. Our scoring system penalizes defective balls more severely while giving more weight to compression metrics than weight and diameter.
