Mouratoglou Defends Alcaraz on Calendar, Citing Mental Fatigue

About Muratoglun Alkaraz. “Makes a lot of sense”

“When it comes to Carlos Alcaraz, people criticize that he says the calendar is too heavy, but he plays a lot of exhibitions or competitions,” Muratoglu said in a video posted on his social channels. “It’s not physical, it’s mental. Carlos is the type of player who gets full when he plays a lot of tennis. At some point he no longer enjoys, joy. He is no longer creative on the court and his level is dropping a lot. So it might make a lot of sense for him to compete in other competitions.”

In a longer post posted alongside the video, the coach took the objection head on. “People laughed when he complained about it at the US Open. That question comes from someone looking at the wrong problem,” he wrote. “When players say the calendar is too tough, people think physical. In Carlos’s case, it’s probably not physical. He can handle the number of games easily. It’s mental.”

His story of what the saturation of Alcaraz is worth is special. the joy goes, the creativity goes, the level goes down, and the danger reaches the already empty core, “not motivated enough to win or to stay in the place and hotel for days and weeks”.

Carlos does not need tournaments that give more points. He must love tennis when the bigs come.

In that way, he argues, team week is the cure rather than the symptom, and the lack of ranking points the point rather than the controversy. “Carlos does not chase points,” Mouratoglou wrote. He doesn’t need more tournaments that give points. He must love tennis when the bigs come.

He also expands it beyond single player. “Is he an isolated case, probably not, and I think it’s difficult for players playing in the same level of tournaments,” he said. “Imagine a year, then a second year, then a third year. At some point they get bored, mentally tired, and that affects their results and can also lead to some injuries.”

Alcaraz’s week ended with Team Europe winning the Laver Cup 13-5 at the O2, a tournament he started by saving two set points against Taylor Fritz and ended without needing to play his scheduled singles matches on Sunday.
