The paper spoke Yahoo Sports this week about his release. While Page admitted that he hadn’t had the most exciting fights while in the UFC, he was very surprised by how his release from the company was handled.
“I felt like it would be, ‘Look, we can re-sign, but it’s a lot less (money)’ and we’ll work from there,” Page said. “But I wouldn’t have expected it to be handled the way it was handled. I found it quite disrespectful to be honest.”
Part of Page’s displeasure with the situation stems from being denied an interview in the cage after his win over Ruziboyev.
“What’s wrong with me talking?” Page said. “I’ve seen fights that have been absolutely terrible and they can still get on the mic and tell their story. This is the second time with me. I feel like especially when you knew you weren’t going to re-sign me, what was the harm in me even talking to my fans and the audience in Paris?”
Page said that despite being upset with how things were handled, he had reached out to various UFC figures and sent nice messages.
He also said he would welcome real feedback from UFC brass about his fighting style; if it was such a big reason for their growing disinterest in him.
“I’m always happy to have a conversation, whether it’s hard or easy,” Page said. “If you’re not happy with the performances, talk to me.”
“At least it gives me a goal and something to work towards and I know exactly where I stand with the partnership. I think it’s annoying not hearing anything and having to guess all the time. And even after you don’t have a conversation to say, ‘Thank you for your time here, but we’re not going to move forward and work together in the future,’ that would just be nice to hear.”
Page talked about his fighting style and seemed to understand that his UFC matches were tough watches for the fans.
“I just know what I’m capable of and for whatever reason, I don’t know what it is, I just feel like I’m not pushing myself enough in the fight,” he said. “It’s a weird thing to say because I’m winning fights and I’m not at my best. It’s a shame I haven’t been able to show my best, but I’m still beating fighters who are at the top of their game.”
According to the paper, “there are offers right now” for his services. He said he’s open to anything at this stage and that almost every organization you could name has contacted him. Clear that Jake Paul’s MVP/PFL wants to bring him over.
