Between them, David Ortiz and Justin Verlander have a combined five World Series rings, 20 All-Star appearances and 3,088 MLB games played. So remembering facts about their illustrious career shouldn’t be too difficult for them, right?
Their memories were put to the test in a new game called “Fact Or Splat,” with the help of Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez. The rules are simple: If you get the answer right, you can throw a fruit into a giant cutout of your opponent’s face; if you get it wrong, your opponent must remove the fruit.
How did Verlander and Big Papi do? Let’s see the results:

Jeter hinted: “It’s somebody that’s in the family.” Ortiz immediately knew the answer: former Dominican right-hander Ramon Martinez.
The cake was a direct hit.
Next, it was Verlander’s turn to answer his first question.
Jeter asked, “Who was your first hit-and-run victim in your career?”
The recently retired right-hander didn’t hesitate: “Travis Hafner.”
It was a quick response, but Verlander’s throw didn’t make impressive contact with Ortiz’s face.
Next: “Papi, this one’s for you. Who’s been your longest-serving teammate?”
Ortiz played 20 years in the majors, 14 of which came in Boston. It could have been any number of players.
The answer? Dustin Pedroia. Ortiz’s guess was shortstop Tim Wakefield.
Verlander got the better of his second shot and took a direct hit to Ortiz’s face.
Verlander looked around and said, “I’m going with Derek.”
Ace nailed it and landed a pumpkin on Big Papi’s face.
It didn’t take the Pope long to answer that.
“Manny Ramirez, Mikey Lowell and me,” he replied before the cake landed in Verlander’s face.
Verlander got Max Scherzer, Rick Porcello, Tarik Skubal (he got a generous tip from A-Rod to get him) and Gerrit Cole.
The four players Verlander missed: Dallas Keuchel, Zack Greinke, David Price and Robbie Ray.
