Jose Mourinho has launched a furious attack on the league’s fixture list, accusing the competition’s organizers of trying to Real Madrid unjustly and demanding that they “leave us alone”.
The Real Madrid manager was unhappy with the limited recovery time his players were given after their Champions League trip to AEK Athens, questioning why his side had been given a more demanding schedule than Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
Asked if he had a message for Tebas and La Liga, the Portuguese coach initially insisted he had to be respectful before delivering it.
“No, no message, I have to stay humble, because they have all the power,” Mourinho said.
“The only thing I ask is that we don’t do things like this again, where we play on Sunday, then Wednesday, then Saturday, it doesn’t make sense, it’s a joke.
“Barça and Atlético played on Tuesday and Sunday, so why do we have to play on Wednesday and Sunday, and we have to sleep in Valdebebas, because we landed from Athens at 3 in the morning?” he continued
“I’m asking them to leave us alone.”
His revelation that Madrid players were forced to sleep at the club’s Valdebebas training complex after landing from Athens at 3am illustrates the disruption caused by their European commitments.
