The full extent of the moves the Giants made Tuesday made their point clear. They could no longer justify giving up a roster spot to veteran receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
Beckham is gone, and receivers Braxton Berrios and Charlie Jones have joined the 53-man roster. It’s simple; Berrios and Jones play special teams. Beckham doesn’t.
And this isn’t a simple mix between roster and practice squad. Via Jordan Raanan of ESPN, Giants are not expected to sign Beckham to the training squad “at this time”.
The Beckham reunion gave the Giants a compelling story, one that fans embraced. Reality has since set in. With starting quarterback Jaxson Dart out with a knee injury, the Giants must get the most out of every player on the team. Beckham wasn’t doing enough. It was time for him to go.
Whether it will land elsewhere remains to be seen. Other teams, like the Rams and 49ers, have needs. More injuries are inevitable.
Last year, Beckham did not play at all. It remains to be seen whether this will also be the case for the balance of 2026.
