There is no rematch clause in the deal for Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury’s December 11 mega-fight.
Former world champions Joshua and Fury meet in an all-British heavyweight clash at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
The two have been fierce rivals for nearly a decade but, rather than stage a second fight, their December 11 bout is expected to be a “one-off” with retirement as a sign for the loser.
said Spencer Brown, Fury’s manager Sky Sports News: “By contract, there’s a fight. There’s a big fight. It’s made for that.
“I’m not saying there can’t be a second fight. But if Tyson wins, we’d like to restart things with (Oleksandr) Usyk as well.”
However, the loss could put Fury or Joshua out of the sport. “They’re all near the end of their careers,” Brown said. “Anybody who gets lost here, where do they go? It’s hard. Where do they go next?
“Whoever wins, the journey continues. Whoever loses, has to think about what he’s going to do and when he’s going to do it.”
Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, believes the right fight could lead to a second showdown with Fury.
“No rematch clause. It’s one fight, one time. Look, if it’s a blockbuster, I’m sure they’ll do it again,” Hearn said. Sky Sports News. “But for our mentality, it’s one and done.
“Get in there, finish this guy off and away we go.”
He added: “Both guys may be down in this fight, but they’re so desperate to win that you can guarantee they’re going to climb up and crawl off that canvas to win the fight.”
