Western Michigan got hung up during their season opener against Michigan and everyone knows it.
The NCAA’s FBS Oversight Committee knows this, too.
Via Nick Bromberg of Yahoo Sports, the NCAA released a statement Wednesday acknowledging that the replication process reached the wrong result.
“The committee consulted with official national leadership regarding immediate replay protocols,” the statement explained. “Based on that information, the committee agreed that instant replay protocols were not followed in the second to last match of the competition. Had the protocols been followed, the outcome of the game would have been different.”
However, the commission also said the rules do not prevent an appeal of the result of any game after the game is declared over.
While the statement won’t change the official score, it reinforces the unofficial belief that Western Michigan won the game. Because Western Michigan won the game.
