Willie Green, Temple Garrett, Joe Boylan, Drew Williamson, Maori fashion, Rob Fodor and Sam Hershberger will serve as assistant coaches under Mavericks first year head coach Dusty May this season the team announced in a press release. They will work side by side Nate Mitchell, who joins the organization in a dual role as assistant coach and head coach of their NBA G League team, the Texas Legends. Tyson Chandler and Quincy Acey are returning in player development roles.
Green, the former head coach of the Pelicans, had reportedly accepted as May’s top aide earlier this summer, and the release confirms he is on staff. Green has also drawn interest from the Warriors to join their staff.
He was fired New Orleans was just 12 games into last season after a 2-10 start. He was the head coach of the Pelicans for four full seasons before last season, making the playoffs twice.
Temple ended his long playing career after last season to join May’s team. Temple, who spent the last three seasons with Toronto, reunited with former Raptors president Masai Ujiri, who is now the head of basketball operations in Dallas.
Boylan has been an assistant with several NBA teams, most recently with Memphis in the 2024/25 season. Williamson was on May’s staff at Michigan and Mahor was the head coach in Japan the past two seasons. Also of note, Fodor was hired as an assistant coach/shooting coach after spending the last 20 years at Heat.
