“I love learning about investing. Like real estate, stocks, things like that. My father was in real estate, so it’s interesting to me,” Lokmelis said. “I would like to buy several apartments. cash is cash. So I want to do more with it.”
After the season, Lokmelis spent the summer at home in Latvia. He was able to ease into hard work.
“It was actually very different from usual. Especially the first half of the summer was like rehab, training, skating, you come home and you’re so tired. The first half of the summer was tough,” Lokmelis said. “But then I took it easy in the second half, letting my body rest and be ready for training camp.”
The 2022 fourth-round pick feels 100% now, which he has for the past two months, he said. Locmelis brought a high level of excitement to Rookie Camp and therefore the Prospects Showcase this week.
Lokmelis scored a goal in Boston’s 6-2 win over the Buffalo Sabers on Sunday. In the second and final game of the showcase on Monday, Lokmelis finished with two assists in a 4-3 overtime victory; James Hagens scored four goals.
“I felt really good. I didn’t even think about it on the ice, so that’s a good thing. It was nice to finally get back and play hockey,” Lokmelis said. “I just wanted to have fun. Haven’t played for so long, just wanted to enjoy hockey. Since I haven’t played for so long, I’m starting to appreciate those little moments more – morning practice, games like that…
