Despite what should be seen as a setback, Knight doesn’t believe losing the belt has hurt his momentum in any way, which he detailed in “Battleground Podcast:Knight pointed out that Aline had to pull out all the stops to take him down, noting how Sting and his son Stephen Borden had to step in to end his reign.
“I think his efforts to take the belt away from me just shows how great of a champion I was,” he boasted, “how dominant a champion I am and how much of a threat I am to the AEW locker room.”
Knight then briefly praised Allyn, acknowledging how much of a threat he is, describing him as one of the “old pillars” of AEW. “
The fact that he had to go to those lengths just lets me know, and it just lets the rest of the locker room know, hey, I’m nothing to play for,” he pointed out. “The championship doesn’t define me. It never happened and it never will, but I think it made the rest of the locker room realize how powerful I am.”
When asked how he felt about Sting and Stephen’s participation in his match, Knight admits that he was annoyed by their participation, pointing out how big his entrance was and all the effort he put into the match.
“Very disappointing,” he exclaimed. “But this is not the end of the road, this is not the end of me and Darby’s story.”
