NBA superstar Jaylen Brown made an interesting side quest this NBA offseason. The newly signed Philadelphia 76er went to Nigeria to shake hands in a boxing match.
Check out some of the “action” from that fight below.
In the comments on Instagram, Brown noted that he “did 0 prep for this.”
Indeed, this fight was put together in collaboration with one of Brown’s philanthropic initiatives, so it appears to be more than anything else. He’s lucky his partner didn’t go off script. After all, Brown is slated to make $58 million this season (and another $126 million over the next two seasons).
Still, it’s easy to see why Brown might have a passion for the sweet science. His father is Quenton Marselles Brown, a former WBU heavyweight champion. By the way, Quenton Brown was charged attempted murder last year after a stabbing that happened over a parking dispute.
Back to boxing, but…
Jaylen Brown is not the first basketball player to try his hand at combat sports. Who can forget the man who launched Jake Paul’s career?
Multiple NBA slam dunk champion Nate Robinson was Paul’s first boxing opponent. Viral KO Robinson’s suffering can be called a big reason why Paul was able to sneak into combat sports, mix it up, and then fully immerse himself in it.
Want to dump someone in the basketball world? I’m shocked that Dennis Rodman has never opened on one of these influencer cards. You can make money with him versus Jose Canseco!
