The most notable dates the 2026 NBA offseason is behind us now that we’re well past the draft and free agency period. However, there are still a number of dates and deadlines to keep an eye on in the coming weeks and months before teams take to the pitch for the 2026/27 regular season.
Here’s the breakdown:
September 22
- Media Day for Rockets.
- Training camps are open to Rockets and Mavericks.
September 25
September 28
- Media day for the rest of the NBA teams.
September 29
October 1
- The last day for a restricted free agent to sign his qualifying offer (unless his team agrees to push back the deadline).
October 3
October 16
October 17
- Last day for players on fully non-guaranteed contracts who have been waived and do not count towards the 2026/27 squad cap at all. They have to accept waivers before the first day of the regular season.

October 19
- Last day of the 2026 offseason.
- List limits will be reduced from 21 players to 18 (4:00 p.m. CT). Teams will be limited to 15 players on standard contracts and three on two-way deals from this deadline.
- Last day for teams to sign a player to extend the rookie roster (5:00 p.m. CT).
(RELATED: Players Eligible for Rookie Scale Extension) - Last day for teams to sign a veteran player who is eligible for a contract extension and has multiple seasons (eg Tyrese Halliburton) before expansion. A veteran player eligible for a contract extension (eg Stephen Curry) or with option 2027/28 (e.g Janice Antecumba) can be extended after October 20.
- Last day for teams to complete a sign-and-trade deal.
- Last day for teams to convert a player Agreement 10 in a bilateral contract.
