In 2020, Drew McIntyre stepped into the ring with Scottish clay, playing his graduation move. when appearing on “Insight with Chris Van Vliet” McIntyre said he once performed a violent scene to increase gun knowledge during a negotiation with Vince McMahon, inspired by scenes from a Steven Spielberg film.
“I was like, ‘Saving Private Ryan,’ they’re using actors, amputees, etc., they’re cutting off limbs, they’re actually missing. I think very realistic. I think at ‘Mania or something, we should have a fight where we’re backstage. Then we hit the pre-tape where I hang my arm. After all, I use the sword, pay it.” he explained.
McIntyre claimed that what bothered him was that he had the sword as long as he did, while never actually being able to use it on someone, and the best way he could keep it relevant was to actually use it. However, the part never materialized. after all McIntyre explained that he had decided to stop carrying the sword because it doesn’t fit into his character evolution anymore.
“How the character was developing during that time, losing Castle Skirmishes in front of my family, etc., you know, the downward spiral?” he continued. “It felt weird to delve into the character and really get into the trauma and PTSD with the character and stand there with the giant sword in my hand trying to sell that story.”
It is possible that the sword will return one day. McIntyre said he was willing to bring it back for a special entry or even for a specific time because he loved wearing it.
“I’m proud of my Scottish roots,” he said, noting that the sword, Angela, bears the name of his late mother.
