SEATTLE – The New England Patriots will enter Wednesday night’s Super Bowl rematch against the Seattle Seahawks without a top offensive player.
Treveon Henderson, who hasn’t practiced with the team since Aug. 24, has been ruled out of the NFL’s season opener with an ankle injury.
That set up Rhamondre Stevenson to take on an extensive workload against the NFL’s best defense. All offseason, the Patriots have struggled to find depth behind Stevenson and Henderson, which led to last week’s claim of Corey Kiner, another healthy running back on the team’s 53-man roster.

Given that, the Patriots could call up Lan Larrison or Hassan Haskin from the practice squad.
Stevenson had a chance to be the team’s leading tackler this season as Mike Vrabel continued to impress with his consistent work as a pass defender, but now Stevenson could be in line for 20 or more touchdowns against the Seahawks.
It’s a tough way to start the season for Henderson, who rushed for 911 yards and nine touchdowns as a rookie in 2025. The injury occurred during a practice session at the team’s facility on what appeared to be a slippery turf field on a day when several players were struggling on their feet.
“Everybody was skating,” Stevenson said after that practice.
Henderson hasn’t practiced since and it’s unclear if he’ll be ready for the team’s Week 2 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. That gives Stevenson a chance to serve as the team’s top running back, though a matchup against the Seahawks is a tough game to do so.
