Ethan Page shocked many when he defeated Chad Gable for the Intercontinental Championship on”WWE Raw:Among those surprised by the title change is Bully Ray.
Paige won her first main roster championship via stealth tactics after she dropped Gable through an open turnbuckle and then hit her finisher for the win. Ray discussed the meeting “Destroyed gapand explained what could be next for Page, stating that he does not want to see the Page-Gable story.
“It was a big win for Ethan Page last night. Huge progress for him. I’m shocked Gable lost,” Rey said. “I’m not so sure I want to see a story between Ethan Page and Chad Gable. I wish Ethan Page had a clean slate. I would love to hear from him next week with the mission statement. I wouldn’t mind having Cass as his bodyguard moving forward. Shawn (Michaels) and the Razor script, I think, have a personality script.
Rey said that she has been a huge fan of Paige since her days in NXT and is impressed with the physical transformation the former AEW star has undergone.
“I’ve been a fan of Ethan Page since he came to WWE. Obviously, as a guy who transformed his body, I respect Ethan for what he was able to do with a cosmetic body. He did well in NXT. I love the stuff he and Chelsea did together in the tag matches. I like what he’s been doing in the majors.”
The WWE legend wants WWE to give Edge the time and microphone opportunities to grow, allowing him to continue on his path to retaining the title.
Rey on what might be next for Gable in WWE
Meanwhile, bully Rey was confused by the decision to take the title away from Chad Gable, especially after his recent conversation with him at Busted Open. Gable outlined his plans for the Intercontinental Championship, stating that he wanted to become a workhorse champion like former titleholder GANTHER. Rey revisited that interview and pointed out something Gable had expressed interest in that he thinks he can now pursue: wrestling in Mexico again.
“Yesterday I asked Chad if he would like to wrestle in Mexico again or not and he absolutely thought the time was right and my schedule allowed for it. After last night your schedule might allow it,” Ray added.
Rey emphasized that Gable was one of the few WWE stars capable of creating high point-heavyweight wrestling. He added that he would miss seeing that style if WWE moved away from it.
“We’ve been able to count on Gable to have that great match after great match after great match every week,” he said. “You know, because wrestling is a buffet, on the main roster, we don’t really see a high-profile match all the time, right? But Gable does it really well. I hope they don’t get away with it.”
Gable’s first Intercontinental title reign, which he won at SummerSlam from Penta, lasted exactly three months.
