Lacius continued their 100 per cent start to the new Serie A season as they made a late change to win 2-1 at Udinese.
Despite a fan revolt that has seen home games boycotted at the Stadio Olimpico in protest at the way the club is being run by president Claudio Lotito, Lazio have started the campaign in style under Gennaro Gattuso.
Having kept clean sheets in 1-0 wins over Bologna and Genoa, it looked like Lazio would be undone in Udine when the home side broke the deadlock four minutes into the second half.
Lazio scored for the first time in the league this season when Kenan Davis played Jesper Karlstrom perfectly to slot into the bottom left corner.
However, Davide Frattesi headed home Mattia Zaccagni’s low cross 15 minutes from time to level.
Albert Gudmundsson completed the turnaround 13 minutes later, heading home Danilho Doekhi’s superb header from the left.
Lazio are one of three teams with perfect three-match records in Serie A. joining arch rivals Roma and defending champions Inter Milan on nine points.
Asked what impressed him about his team, Gattuso told Sky Sport: “The mentality and the desire. We took everything apart from last year, when there was a master of the 4-3-3, and we’re trying to do something different.
“The boys are doing things well. What we are trying to propose is not easy, but the team is alive.”
Lazio will face Gattuso’s former club AC Milan at the Olímpico as they look to make it four wins from four.
Monday’s other Serie A game saw Cagliari beat Lecce 1-0 for their second win of the season. Daniele Maldini scored the only goal of the game, the club’s first, by heading home from a corner in the 29th minute.
Sucic the hero of the Society
In La Liga, Luka Sucic was the hero Royal Society as they secured a 3-2 win at Elche in an up and coming game.
In the 11th minute, Job Ochieng fired home on the turn to put the visitors in front, and Sociedad doubled their lead when they pounced on Elche’s defensive confusion.
Pedro Bigas couldn’t control the pass from behind goalkeeper Matias Dituro, which allowed Ochieng to cross to Yangel Herrera, whose shot went through Dituro’s hands.
Sucic then looked to have made it 3-0 just after the hour, only for the goal to be ruled out following a handball VAR review in the build-up, with Sociedad’s Jon Martin sent off for a foul.
Thomas Lemar took the opportunity to pull one back for Elche, scoring his first goal for the club with a fine long-range strike, and the home side will have been hoping for all three points when Fer López equalized 16 minutes from time.
López packed up after Tete Morente had turned away Germán Valera’s deep cross on goal, but in the end it was Sucic who had the last word.
Elche were caught on the counter as Croatia international Sucic embarked on a wonderful one-on-one run which he capped with a left-footed sweep to settle an engrossing match.
Like Elche, Celta de Vigo remain winless after drawing 1-1 at Getafe.
Celta had plenty of time to find the winner after Getafe’s Zaid Romero was sent off for a second bookable foul in the 67th minute, but if they haven’t, they have just three points from their first five games.
