WWE’s CM Punk has earned a reputation as one of the best talkers in the industry during his wrestling career; The “Pipe Bomb” commercial is often seen as his crowning achievement. Despite this, reigning NXT Champion Grayson Waller is not afraid of Punk and during an interview, “Opened after darkHe insisted he could “100%” hold the mic against the “Second City Saint.”
“It doesn’t scare me one bit, and not because he’s not talented, he’s the ‘Best in the World,’ but what’s the point of being in this company, what’s the point of being NXT Champion and talking about all this stuff if you don’t feel the same way? he expressed. “That’s my wrestling dream. I don’t think about main event WrestleMania, I don’t think about all these things, I want to face the greatest talker of all time and I want to test myself.”
Waller admitted that he was once a fan of Punk’s before he became a wrestler himself. He felt that Punk always speaks from the heart and noted that he has no problem making people mad, something Waller has applied to his career. Still, Waller found it “embarrassing” to see the younger wrestlers chew out Punk backstage during his recent NXT visit. Looking back on their face-to-face live event, Waller believes he was doing the same thing as Punk, telling the truth to the authorities.
“He went up to the boys and told them what he thought of them,” Waller continued. “And I did just that, and I’m going to get him one day. I’m telling the world that one day I’ll stand up to it and tell it what I really think.”
When that confrontation happens again, Waller mentioned that he wants to see the “old CM Punk” and not the watered-down version that Waller believes is parading around WWE today.
