Former WWE Superstar John Cena is well past his glory days after retirement and is now performing for the legendary “hot dog and handshake” pay-per-view in the independent wrestling circuit.
Yesterday, Cena drove 17 hours to North Platte, NB, where he worked under a mask (as “Crusher Smashmouth”) opening a show royal for Nebraska All-Pro Wrestling.
While independent wrestling is far less lucrative and flashy than the major WWE events Cena is used to, he seems to be finding his niche quickly. He sells his action figures for $20 each at his merch table during intermission, and gives fans 20 percent off T-shirts if they let him crash on their couch after shows.
Cena is booked to face Al Snow at Championship Wrestling in Tallahassee next weekend and is reportedly desperate for a spot in Combat Zone Wrestling’s next ultra-violent death tournament.
