The 2026 College Football Playoff will again have 12 teams.
As in 2025, the four highest-ranked teams overall in the selection committee’s final rankings earn the first four seeds and first-round byes, regardless of whether they won a conference title. The remaining playoff teams will then be decided based on the final CFP rankings.
The automatic final bid (usually the 12th seed) will go to the highest-ranked team from one of the Group of 6 conferences (American, Conference USA, MAC, Mountain West, Pac-12 or Sun Belt), regardless of whether it won its conference championship.
Let’s take a look at the College Football Playoff odds as of October 11th at DraftKings Sportsbook.

Here’s what you need to know about this chart:
Irish on top: After being the last team left out of the 2025 Playoff, controversially, Notre Dame is heavily favored to make it this season — though its competition so far this season has been nothing to write home about. The Irish will travel to top-ranked BYU in Week 7 and have a showdown with defending CFP runner-up Miami on Nov. 7, but in the first six games, Notre Dame has outscored Wisconsin, Rice, Michigan State, Purdue, UNC and Stanford 264-66. Each of these six teams is unranked.
West Coast Elite: Are UCLA and Utah the real deal? The Bruins, under first-year coach Bob Chesney, are 5-0 and just beat Oregon in Eugene, 17-15. This is a big win. Her odds to reach the CFP were +455 last week, but now they drop to +105, ninth on the board. Also consider this: UCLA doesn’t face another ranked opponent until its rivalry game with USC on Nov. 28, and that game is on the Bruins’ home court. As for Utah, it is 5-0 with five wins, scoring at least 31 points in each of those games. It has games against Houston and BYU listed over the next four weeks, but both are at home.
