Sometimes this pesky day job gets in the way of a day on the golf course. This is true for us as well as professional tennis players – although for us it is rarely at Augusta National.
Jack Sock, former professional tennis player, was this week’s guest GOLF Subpar podcast. Sock, who will retire in 2023, was a two-time Olympic medalist as well as a four-time Grand Slam champion, and is also a pickleball pro and a 1 handicap on the golf course.
During the interview, Sock discussed his golf game and said that while he attended a practice match at the Masters at Augusta Nationalhe still has to play the course. He had a chance a few years ago, but it fell through.
As Sock explains, he played at the 2017 Paris Masters, but also planned a trip to Augusta National later with his tennis partner, John Isner, whose father (Mark McKinley) is a member there.
“At the time I didn’t expect to win the tournament … but long story short, (Isner) lost in the semis, I won my semis, and I went to Augusta, I stayed and played the guy in the final that he lost,” said Sock. “He’s sending pictures from Augusta and I’m a little mad that I’m not here, but also excited to hopefully win the tournament.”
The good news? He won the tournament, which became the biggest singles victory of his career.
“I’m glad that the tennis side happened for me,” Sock said, “but I’m hoping that maybe I’ll get an invite sometime.”
