Jare Oguntibeju’s late try gave it away Glasgow battle win 24-20 Benetton in Treviso and took second place in the United Rugby Championship.
Warriors captain Kyle Steyn saw his 26th-minute effort ruled out for a forward pass, before Benetton went ahead on the half-hour when Federico Zanandrea sprinted over for a corner. Jacob Umaga’s penalty just before the break gave the hosts a 10-0 lead.
Benetton had another try two minutes after the restart when winger Louis Lynagh burst down the flank after latching on to a loose pass, before Mattia Midena picked up a yellow card for a hands-off tackle.
Glasgow made the most of their advantage, with Euan Ferrie first crossing from the kick-off before Steyn added another try in the corner.
The Warriors then leveled at 17-all straight after the restart as Rory Darge finished off a powerful move in the 56th minute, with Matt Urwin’s conversion attempt going wide.
Benetton went back in front in the 68th minute through a long-range penalty from Umaga, but the Warriors responded again when Oguntibeju crossed with two minutes remaining and Bayley Kuenzle slotted home a hard-earned third win for URC.
