September 4: Hollywood star Hugh Jackman is in discussions to buy a stake in Championship club Norwich City.
When asked by talkSPORT about following his actor friend and Deadpool and Wolverine co-star Ryan Reynolds to co-own Wrexham, Jackman said: “I’m very, very interested, and I’m talking about it right now. You’re the first to know. There’s a bit of exclusivity. Well, Ryan, do your thing, I am.”
Jackman is a Norwich fan and the Australian told the BBC in 2024 that he supported the club because of his mother, after being asked where she was born as a child. “We haven’t won much,” he admitted at the time. “We won the Milk Cup. It’s good. I’m here for the long haul.”
A true global superstar, best known for Wolverine, The Greatest Showman and Les Misérables, Jackman would join a growing list of American celebrities shopping English clubs. Reynolds and Rob Mac own Wrexham, while Michael B. Jordan (Bournemouth), Tom Brady (Birmingham City, Snoop Dogg (Swansea City) and Will Ferrell (Leeds United) have minority stakes in English league clubs.
Norwich finished ninth in the Championship last season, a fifth consecutive year in the division, having last played in the Premier League in 2021-22. They are majority owned by American billionaire businessman Mark Attanasio, who also controls Major League Baseball’s Milwaukee Brewers.
