Eddie Hearn is not buying Dana Whiteabout the lack of explanation Tyson Fury
vs. Anthony Joshua press conference.
Fury and Joshua will meet on December 11 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. The first press conference of the fight took place on September 30 at the Olympia Exhibition Center in London. White has repeatedly said that he will participate in the fight with Turki Aalshikh. However, Hearn has disputed White’s characterization of his role, arguing that contractual agreements prevent White from being involved without his consent.
Eddie Hearns calls the Dana White situation one of the biggest PR disasters in boxing
The
Ultimate Fighting Championship The CEO did not attend the London press conference, citing his own
Dana White Candidate Series responsibilities the previous day.
Hearn is not convinced by this explanation. The Matchroom Boxing executive questioned whether White would miss a press conference for a fight of this magnitude due to his Contender Series commitments. Hearn believes Aalshikh wants White involved because of their partnership, but claims contractual arrangements prevent it without Hearn’s consent.
“It’s like I’m not coming today because I’ve got a next generation show… It’s full of bullshit,” Hearn told The Stomping Ground. “The thing is, Turki is Dana and Nick Khan’s partners. He wants them in the event; contractually they can’t be unless I let them. Now these guys, Dana, etc. just played it all wrong. I’m not even going to sit here and let it go because what’s happened to them in the last seven days has been one of the biggest public relations disasters.”
Hearn believes White took the wrong approach in publicly clashing with him. He suggested he might be open to involving White if it benefits Anthony Joshua and Matchroom.
“I don’t even have to get into them,” Hearn continued. “I would tell you, and I don’t want to be condescending like some people and tell you how to do things, but all you had to do was say, ‘We understand there’s a contract that (prevents) us from participating; we get together with Eddie Hearn and Turki Aalshikh and discuss it. If you can give me a reason why I should let these people fight and it benefits Anthony Joshua and Matchroom, then let’s talk.”
