That’s life-changing money for average hustlers like you and me, but “AJ” is ready to leave it all on the table when friend and longtime promoter Eddie Hearn tells him to “pull the plug.” What terrible coincidence could lead Joshua to such a drastic (and costly) decision?
“My loyalty is to Eddie, so whatever he wants to do,” Joshua said talkSPORT Boxing. “If he wants to pull the plug, I’ll be right there and pull the plug with him.”
“We took this fight to the UK,” added Joshua. “I’ve been through this situation where there are contract negotiations and things where the higher powers are upset with me and sending me personal messages. I’m G if you want to go to war, but it’s like a corporate level of messaging where people are not happy. I just want them to know that I fought for British boxing and I wanted to bring respect to this side of the pond when I first got the world title because they said so. America.”
“I took less money and paid the champion more money to bring it to the UK. I’ve said it before in interviews that I think people should respect British fighters more because we’re fighters that need respect or fighters to be reckoned with, so that’s all I can ask,” Joshua said. “Remember me as someone who fought for British boxing and tried to bring respect back here. That’s it, nothing more. I don’t want anything more, I don’t expect anything more and I’m happy with that.”
Lucky enough to pass on $100 million? That remains to be seen.
