Ex Wales Scrum-half Lloyd Williams has decided to sign a new contract with Worcester four months after announcing his retirement from the game.
The 36-year-old, who won 32 caps for Wales, made the decision to hang up his boots ahead of last season’s play-offs, which ended with the Warriors winning the championship in his first season in professional rugby.
However, Williams has decided he still has some rugby left in him and is now available for selection for tomorrow’s game against Bedford Blues, a replay of last year’s final.
“It’s been a bit of a surreal week, but it’s been great to be back and see everyone and fit in – everyone has made me feel really welcome,” Williams said.
“Now I have to get on with the game now and remember what it was like to play for Worcester and I can’t wait to experience it again.”
Williams played 22 times last season, scored six tries and was captain on two occasions.
Warriors coach Matt Everard added: “We are delighted that such a brilliant person on and off the court as Lloyd has decided to rejoin us ahead of the season.
“Lloyd had a huge impact not only on the playing group last season, but also on the coaching staff through his attitude and desire to continuously grow.
“His impact on the field is outstanding, but the experience and wealth of knowledge he brings is excellent. We can’t wait to see how he continues to grow within the group.”
