Cody Rhodes has assured wrestling fans that wrestling is in a great place right now, not just because of what’s happening in the ring, but outside of it as well.
Rhodes, who starred in Street Fighter alongside fellow wrestlers Roman Reigns and Hiroki Goto, said having three wrestlers in one movie is a great moment for the wrestling community as a whole. He believes it shows how far wrestling has come and how firmly it has established itself in the mainstream.
“I really think it’s a proud moment for all of wrestling. It’s our moment. I’m so lucky I got it offered this roleand you work all your life and you want these things,” he started talking to her Denise Salcedo. “You get three wrestlers in one movie. I remember seeing Watchmen and people wondering what Dave Batista would be like, and then the first big laugh was Drax’s moment, the Batista moment. I felt like yes, it’s the wrestler. So the fact that you have. Romanyou have Goto, me, and everyone is very different. I’m excited about wrestling.”
“American Nightmare” pointed to how the business has evolved in professional wrestling and that wrestling is no longer a staple of mainstream entertainment.
“We’re in the best place the business has ever been,” Rhodes added. “If you’re a wrestling fan, a wrestler, casual or as die-hard as you and I are, you’ll remember the days when it wasn’t something we could all share. And it wasn’t something that wasn’t, you know, a great mainstream word. Mainstream wrestling no longer needs to fight for the mainstream. With Nick Khan as president and Triple H as executive and creative leader, we’ve got ourselves in the right place. I don’t think we’re in rooms anymore that we feel like we shouldn’t be in.”
Rhodes predicts that wrestlers will get more opportunities on other projects in the future if they do a good job, something his friend John Cena has always said.
