One of the best promos in professional wrestling history was the late “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes. Dusty has had so many memorable promos throughout his decades-long career, and his son, “American Nightmare,” Cody Rhodes, recently sat down The Last Meal of Fabulous Kitchen to discuss his beloved.
He said that while Many people always quote Hard Times. he’d actually heard it before, when his dad cut a promo for Ole Anderson at a Georgia championship wrestling match that wasn’t televised. Rhodes said his favorite Dusty promo came in WCW in 1994.
“My favorite promo he ever did was with my brother Dustin, ‘The View Never Changes,’ talking about ignoring Dustin and wanting to be his partner,” Rhodes said. “Our family lived before them. As much as it’s a show in WWE, you know, however you want to look at it, Cody Rhodes’ character is pretty real, you know? I think the main difference is Runnels and Rhodes. Doing that promo with my brother and sharing that moment was kind of the only way he could apologize and say he loved him, so that one was really special to me.”
Rhodes said he’s glad his father was a WWE NXT promo coach before he passed away because his legacy lives on through Seth Rollins, Becky Lynch and others. learned from him during that time at the WWE Performance Center. Rhodes said that not many legends get to have that final chapter where they can give back, but his father’s final chapter in the world of pro wrestling was great.
