After the WWE Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley was eliminated from SummerSlam Last month, a torn meniscus led to a ladder match to determine who would become the interim women’s champion, and while many fans believed she would never be given the chance to hold the top title, Chelsea Green beat the odds and captured the gold. Green has been one of WWE’s most reliable workers over the past few years, but many doubted that the promotion would actually make him a world champion, especially after WWE producer Michael “PS” Hayes insisted he wasn’t a main event star. However, Green seems to have had doubts on his part, explaining “Insight” that he didn’t foresee himself ever winning a world title.
“It’s crazy because I never actually dreamed of that moment. And I think people won’t be surprised by that because they know I just went on a trip. Like, it is what it is. Whatever happens will happen. At SummerSlam I was like “holy s**t, I did it.” But I didn’t even necessarily set out to do that thing, then I did it,” he said. “During the first year of my career, I was very stressed. And then after ‘Hard Enough,’ when I realized, oh, what’s meant to be is going to happen, and you can’t control anything.”
Green went on to explain that he cares deeply about his work ethic, how he treats people backstage and how he interacts with fans, but puts less effort into thinking about his creative direction knowing he can’t control his character’s future.
