WWE SmackDown 10/23/2026: 3 Things We Hated And 3 Things We Loved

I love that WWE is continuing the CM Punk vs. Kevin Owens feud with a fresh feel. No one was live on tonight’s show, but WWE released an intense pre-taped promo segment between them and general manager Nick Aldis, where Aldis revealed that the rivals will face off in Brooklyn, New York in two weeks.

I really liked that it looked like Aldis had these two sit down to patch things up a bit before revealing that they would be facing off in another match after first facing each other for the Undisputed WWE Championship that Punk won back in August. This comes after the Money in the Bank ladder match, where Owens’ only goal, other than defeating himself, was to keep the briefcase out of Punk’s hands.

Owens started this conversation by saying that he thought they were “good” after doing this, which was funny. An upset Punk said he knew Owens would continue to be a thorn in his side until he took him down, so he’s all set for this upcoming fight.

The way these two naturally talk over each other, but in a way that neither really takes away from what the other is saying or makes it hard to listen to, is pretty artful. The way Owens keeps the caricatures on top of the lines he has to hit in a promo or segment is just fantastic.

They keep calling back to their previous real-life issues, but don’t hurt them too terribly. Owens also referenced an earlier promo where he said he didn’t want to be a “miserable prick” like Punk and said that dealing with Punk was turning him into that miserable prick. This isn’t going to delve into the actual backstage issues between these two by any means, but it’s intense and natural enough that it feels completely different than anything else in WWE right now.

Even though no one asked Aldis outright for this encounter, it just feels right and I really like how it’s set up and revealed. I’m sure Punk and Owens will both be live next week and I’m all for giving them live mics in the ring before they put on what is likely to be a stampede in Brooklyn.
