Until the North American Women’s Champion Zaria gets called up to the main roster, I just want her to run where she’s booked like a badass beast, preferably with a title, not what “NXT” gives her. I don’t understand what this show is trying to accomplish with its feud with Izzy Dam.
Dame continues to tease Zaria about her relatively normal-seeming past. Tonight, she cut a raunchy, dramatic promo under the blue lights of The Culling, opposite Nico Vance, where she once again poked fun at photos of Zaria in high school theater, seemingly oblivious to the irony. Dame commented on Zaria’s “brokenness” and while she “likes broken things,” being broken doesn’t make Zaria innocent or special.
While he has a very good, convincing promo and delivers his lines naturally (almost a theater kid in the pro wrestling pipeline makes a lot of sense), I’m just as confused as Vance is by all of this. Dame said that she sees Zaria as a “scared girl hiding behind a title” which I guess might make some sense, but I swear if they go back to mentioning Zaria’s insecurities to give way to Sol Ruka, I’m going to scream.
Dame went so far as to say that this isn’t even about the NA Women’s Championship, at least not yet, and she’s just using the title as an opportunity to get close to Zaria, to see when she inevitably slips. I hate it when wrestlers say it’s not all about the titles, especially when they’re feuding with the champion. If he’s trying to break Zaria down and make her stumble, why wouldn’t his first goal be to strip her of the title? If it’s not about the championship, Dame is just jealous he After all, one of the main characters of Wicked was cast in high school, right? I really need someone to make sense of it for me.
I’m ready for NXT to take this show on the road, physically, because I haven’t seen Dame in singles action in a while, and I’m really starting to like him in the ring. His work with Lizzie Raine was really fun, so I think he’ll hit it off with Zaria as well. I wouldn’t even mind if this feud were like the series of matches between Dame and Tatum Paxley that end up in the cage, because it looks like they might heat up enough to go to a stipulation. How long it takes them to get there, however, is anyone’s guess.
