Truly one of the best, if not the best thatbest Money in the Bank matches of all time, Penta stepped up to claim the briefcase and put himself one step away from becoming a world champion. This was a match that did everything right, whether it was continuing the feud between Kevin Owens and CM Punk, establishing Braun Breaker as an unstoppable force, or making Jevon Evans a leaping daredevil.
Owens and Punk held true to their promise that neither of them would claim the briefcase while also fulfilling Sami Zayn’s prophecy on Friday night. Literally every time one of them stepped up, another was there to thwart the plan. It eventually boiled over as both men grappled in front of the barricade, putting themselves in the perfect position for the breaker spear to go through them.
It wasn’t the first time the barricade came into play either, as Trick Williams, Punk, Owens and Penta jumped into the timekeeper’s area and Evans tried to jump over it at them. Breaker spears Evans into the shadow realm and he is stretchered out in an ambulance.
Williams recruited Lil Yachty on his behalf, and Yachty was given the opportunity to sell the Stunner as a reward. There were a whole bunch of ladder spots with some oohs and aahs and out-of-the-way “oochie oochies”. And then Evans drove the ambulance back to the arena and ringside for his big return to the match.
A big a** ladder was brought into the fold, standing on top of the briefcase as it was set up, and Evans climbed out of it through the roof of the ambulance. Crazy place indeed, enough to ignore that ambulance roofs aren’t usually made of wood. But this was not all.
Penta then used the big a** ladder to bridge the smaller ladder so he could jump onto it with a cracker. Then, and only then, did Penta climb the big a** ladder to the loudest pop of the night.
This match was wall-to-wall excitement to match the result. I was a supporter Penta defeated Roman Reigns in Mexico City so him being just one step away from actually winning the title is very exciting. Here’s hoping that’s a promise kept.
