John Cena has played a character in WWE for years who would never back down from a challenge and consistently faced her fears head on. Under the hood and after years of pushing himself, Cena developed a fear of heights.
during the interviewAND News“Discussing his latest film, ‘Matchbox. The Movie,” Cena was asked about his fear of heights given the fact that he did his own stunts for the film, which included hanging from a helicopter.
“I think my fear of heights stems from falling down most of my life in WWE,” he admitted. Cena explained that he had gotten to the point where he could measure the difference between a fall that would hurt, injure, or potentially result in death, and lived with that knowledge.
In light of the stunts he performed in the film, Cena admits there were times when he thought using a stuntman was a better route, but praised former stuntman and director Sam Hargrave for keeping him safe on set.
“Because of Sam’s smooth training, I had to face some of my fears and do a lot of things I’m uncomfortable with,” she explained. “I didn’t get over my fear, but I promised Sam I’d bend over backwards and he promised me I’d be safe, and we both kept our promises.”
“Matchbox. Cena is joined by fellow cast members Jessica Biel, as well as Christopher Hivju, best known for his role as Tormund Gyantsbain on Game of Thrones.
