A great responsibility comes with being the AEW World Champion. and for Will Ospreynot only does he want to represent All Elite Wrestling on the world stage, but he also wants his current reign as champion to bring back the competitive nature of wrestling. In an interview with Great BritainExtreme sports channel,“Osprey explained that the one thing he wants to do during his reign as champion is to bring back the sportsmanship to wrestling that he feels has been lost in recent years.
“I love looking at big boxing events like Conor Benn that just happened and it was like a huge thing and I feel like the whole essence of wrestling is to put the sports show behind it. I feel like there are matches like brand new concept matches that we can really bring to AEW that I’ve thought about before doing and haven’t done something that’s been like that and I’ve never done it. I like to bring a little bit more of a sports atmosphere, like honestly the World Cup was very inspiring for me, like watching everyone come together and like, I like to see people behind.
Ospreay went on to say that he feels like he’s one of, if not, the best sports wrestlers in the world right now, so he wants to be put in matches and storylines that can highlight that. He may get his chance at the upcoming AEW WrestleDream 2026 pay-per-view: The inaugural Clockwork Carnage match for the AEW World ChampionshipThe Ospreay match was helped design with the idea that it was the ultimate test of endurance for a wrestler. However, he will need to successfully defend his crown against Kazuchika Okada at AEW Grand Slam France for that to become a reality.
