Will Ospreay defeated his longtime rival Kazuchika Okada to retain the AEW World Championship in the main event. “AEW Dynamite. Grand Slam France”.
As expected, Ospreay vs. Okada featured a mix of hard moves and high jumps. In the finale of the title match, Ospreay backed Okada into the corner and nailed him with an enzuigiri. However, Okada blocked a standing corkscrew moonsault that followed.
After the two traded punches, Okada rolled to the apron where Ospreay drove him there with an Oscar. The champion followed up with a dropkick, only to be sent flying into his opponent seconds later. A rainmaker earned Okada near the fall. However, as he looked for his second, Osprey jumped and hit one of his own for a one count. A Styles Clash got a two count.
Okada fired back with a pair of successful Rainmakers before Ospreay unleashed a pair of Hidden Blades for another near fall. When the Storm Breaker also failed to keep Okada down, Ospreay then took out his elbow pad and hit another Hidden Blade. This one left Okada’s shoulders on the mat for the full three count.
After his victory over Okada, Osprey will now turn his attention to AEW WrestleDream, where he and seven others will compete in the first Clockwork Carnage match. Samoa Joe secured his spot beating Jack Perry earlier in the Grand Slam in France. The remaining six applicants are yet to be decided. Ospreay’s AEW World Championship will be on the line.
The Aerial Assassin captured the AEW top prize by defeating Kenny Omega at All In. after everything he challenged Okada to face him Grand Slam France, citing an interest in “The Rainmaker” making amends for past losses.
