Dan Ndoye produced a clinical finish to give Nottingham Forest lead in the first five minutes of their clash with the Premier League Crystal Palace.
The Switzerland international collected a mistake from Anan Khalaili before stroking the ball into the far corner in what was, at least for the first 40 minutes, a happy return to Selhurst Park for Forest manager Oliver Glasner.
The visitors were dominant from the start, and should have extended their lead before the break when Morgan Gibbs-White’s effort from distance deflected off the crossbar at the feet of Liam Delap.
But with all the goal to aim for, the Forest striker volleyed straight at Palace keeper Walter Benítez, who threw his body into the path to somehow prevent the ball from crossing the line.
Delap again squandered a chance moments later when he deflected his header the wrong side of the post.
Missed opportunities would be costly. Having rarely ventured into Forest’s defensive third, Palace equalized on 40 minutes when Daichi Kamada pushed home completely against the run of play.
The first-half comeback was completed when Jefferson Lerma headed in from an Adam Wharton corner after Matz Sels had made a brilliant save from Tyrick Mitchell moments earlier.
