Lamine Yamal has put Barcelona in an early 1-0 lead against Aston Villa at home Champions League clash at the Camp Nou on Tuesday night.
The 19-year-old broke the deadlock in the seventh minute after capitalizing on a costly mistake by Villa midfielder Joao Gomes.
Gomes missed a pass in a dangerous area, allowing Yamal to pounce on the loose ball and drive home.
The Barcelona winger made no mistake, directing his shot into the bottom corner to give goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez little chance and give Hansi Flick’s team the perfect start.
It was a nightmare opening for Unai Emery’s men, who arrived in Spain having won their opening three Champions League games.
Villa had beaten Club Brugge, Fenerbahce and Viking in the league stage, scoring 12 goals in those three games.
Barcelona, meanwhile, were looking to bounce back from their 4-2 loss against Paris Saint-Germain last time out in Europe.
Yamal had also scored in that defeat in Paris, continuing his impressive form in the competition.
Villa almost produced an immediate response to the teenager’s opener, with Matty Cash volleying just wide before Joao Gomes saw an effort blocked by Joao Cancelo.
