Anthony Gordon ended his wait for the first time Barcelona goal when they took the lead in two minutes against Getafe.
Gordon has made an excellent start to his Barça career since joining from Newcastle United in the summer, with four assists, but had yet to find the back of the net before Saturday’s game at Camp Nou.
The England winger enjoyed an excellent international break, scoring in three of his four Nations League games, including in a thrilling 3-2 defeat against Spain.
And his first Barcelona goal came shortly after his return LaLiga action
It came with a stroke of luck when Gordon let fly from the edge of the box after a good run, his effort taking a sharp deflection and wrong-footing the defenseless David Soria in the Barcelona goal.
That goal didn’t open the floodgates, but Barca made it 2-0 on the half hour, Gabriel Jesús finding the bottom left corner after Getafe lost possession in their own half.
Barcelona are looking to make it eight wins from eight to start the LaLiga season, and a win would restore their five-point lead at the top after Atletico Madrid beat Alavés on Saturday.
