The Warriors they delay the salary of a big man Kristaps Porzingisclaiming he is not providing the services required under his player contract, sources tell ESPN’s Shams Charanya and Anthony Slater (Link to Twitter).
The penalty for not providing services is 1/91.6 of the player’s salary for each game he misses, tweets ESPN’s Bobby Marks. In Porzingis’ case, that’s $218,341 per game, which is 1/91.6 of his $20 million salary for 2026/27.
Reporting at the beginning of the season revealed that Golden State is exploring potential trade avenues for Porzingis, who has been sidelined indefinitely with undisclosed health issues and is said to be considering retirement. The Warriors’ efforts on that front continue, Charanya and Slater report, noting that holding onto a portion of the big man’s salary doesn’t affect the front office’s ability to trade him.
Slater suggested last week that the Warriors expected Porzingis to be around the team more often despite his health issues, saying the situation “can no longer be described as an excused absence.” The 31-year-old has reportedly not been at the club’s facilities since early October. Slater also wrote at the time that Golden State was discussing internally whether to consider Porzingis’ absence an inability to provide his services.
