One of the most frequent questions I get is how to hit a wedge that sucks the green.
You know, the one that jumps out of the hole, stops and turns near the pin. It’s actually a pretty simple shot to hit. Most techniques in the golf swing work in pairs, and flighted scoring clubs are no different. If we can manage clubface and loft early in the swing, impact becomes a byproduct.
One of the best ways to practice this is to place a golf tee in your leading hand between your middle and ring fingers, all the way down. Make your backswing and feel as it twists off the tee behind you in transition.
At impact, point the tee in front of the ball as you spin. This marries your pivot, driving wrist and clubface together, creating a volley shot with reduced loft, stable face control and predictable spin.
