Kayleigh Powell has been ruled out of Wales’ WXV Global Series campaign in the latest injury blow to Sean Lynn’s side.
The Harlequins suffered a hamstring injury in her back and will miss the Test matches against South Africa, USA Women’s Eagles and Japan in September and October.
Last week, the Welsh Rugby Union confirmed that Donna Rose, Kelsie Webster and Hanna Tudor have been banned from the game for the next two months.
Powell, 27, has started in all five Guinness Women’s Wales 2026 tournaments. Six Nations games at fullback and scored one try as the team picked up a third straight wooden spoon.
To date, Powell has won 33 games for the Wales and represented her country at two Women’s Rugby World Cups. She also represented Team GB in Rugby Week at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Coming into Friday’s clash with the Springbok Women at Cardiff Arms Park, Wales have not won since July 2025. Their last win came against Australia in the women’s warm-up game Rugby World Cup in 2025
Springbok women enter WXV Global Series he has played five Test matches since July. This included a series draw with the USA at home, a whitewash against Fijiana and a loss to the Black Ferns at FNB Stadium.
Wales have announced their matchday squad to play South Africa on Wednesday September 16. It will be Wales’ first test match since their 43-24 defeat Italy in the 5th round of the 2026 Women’s Six Nations.
In June, the Welsh non-club side recorded a 34-17 victory against the Barbarians at the Allianz Stadium.
