Northampton The Saints have secured a long-term future England and British and Irish Lions star Tommy Freeman after the versatile full-back signed a contract extension at Franklin’s Gardens, as reported RugbyPass.
The 25-year-old had another season left on his existing deal but has now committed his future to the reigning Gallagher PREM champions, having already made 118 appearances and scored 79 tries for the club.
Freeman has played a huge part in Northampton’s recent success, scoring both of their PREM final wins against Bath in 2024 and Exeter Chiefs 2026, while the saints reached the Investec Champions Cup final 2025
The 2025 Lion has followed in the footsteps of fellow England backs Alex Mitchell, Fin Smith and Fraser Dingwall in signing new deals in the past year, with lock Alex Coles also putting pen to paper. The club has not yet finalized a new contract for flanker Henry Pollock.
Capable of operating across the back three or in midfield, Freeman was hailed as “undoubtedly one of the best full-backs in the world” by Saints director of rugby Phil Dowson.
Dowson said: “For Tommy to commit his future to the club so early in this season’s recruitment and retention cycle is a huge boost for us. We are delighted that he has chosen to continue his journey with Northampton Saints.”

“While still only 25 years of age, he already has outstanding experience of club and international rugby, including the British & Irish Lions tour. He has already achieved a huge amount in the game, but we sincerely believe there is more to come.
“He’s the kind of player who can change a match in an instant. He has all the physical attributes you could want, but it’s his rugby intelligence, skill and confidence that really sets him apart.”
Freeman added: “Saints is a special place. We have an amazing group of lads, a brilliant coaching set-up, and it’s an environment where I believe I can continue to develop and get the best out of myself as a player.”
“We’ve enjoyed some brilliant moments together over the past few years, but there’s a sense that we’re still growing and building towards something even bigger.
“We’ve won two PREM titles, reached the European final and we don’t think we’re done yet. There are some exciting players coming into the fold and this is a team that will only continue to grow with more experience and time together.”
