You only get one Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Debut!
Seven rookies stepped into the octagon yesterday (Saturday, September 5, 2026) at UFC Paris Inside the Accor Arena in Paris, France. Collectively, the rookies went 5-2, with absolutely terrific performances.
Now that the dust has settled, we evaluate their respective performances below:
Salahdin Parnassus made his much-anticipated debut and looked like the UFC’s touted elite acquisition. The former KSW champion stayed calm during the early feel-out process, trading blows Dan Hooker and occasionally exploding forward with quick combos. Just over two minutes into the fight, Parnasse buried a perfectly placed jab to Hooker’s liver, folding the durable veteran immediately. He followed up with glancing headbutts and strikes along the fence until the referee intervened at 2:35 (watch the highlights).
Hooker put up next to no resistance as Parnasse found his opening, but taking down a proven lightweight in his UFC debut — and doing so effortlessly — was still a huge statement.
Parnasse is the real deal and will be an elite lightweight contender for years to come and may even hold UFC gold. He is extremely well thought out in every aspect of MMA and finishes.
He called for a fight Max Hollowaybut I don’t think he will get out of this fight. I’m tempted to throw someone similar Quillan Salkilld – he can fight another hot Aussie instead, Tom Nolan.
Only with five days’ notice Pavel Andrusca stepped up to take one of the most underrated fighters on the roster and made him a regular.
Andrusca was immediately worried Nathaniel Wood with his explosiveness, landing straight right hands, knees, elbows and an early takedown to get the opening round. Wood dropped him with a heavy right hand in the second, but Andrusca recovered smartly, grappling and briefly threatening an arm-triangle choke. Wood probably still won the round, but Andrusca decisively took back control in the third. He pressured Wood, stiffed him with short jabs, opened up cuts and secured another late takedown. The official scores – 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28 – were wider than the fight looked, but Andrusca was the rightful winner. Under these circumstances, to beat an experienced ranked opponent was huge – even more impressive considering Andrusca is fighting at Bantamweight.
Andrusca is a great signing and should have a lot of success.
Would like to see him fight Santiago Luna next.
Fabia Sintes and Michael Aljarouj
Two rookies, Fabia Sintes and Michael Aljarouj, did it in the heats, but I have to be honest, I found it boring and unimpressive.
Aljarouj started promisingly, but gassed after five minutes, and Sintes made the necessary adjustments after losing the opening round. Aljarouj started well with kicks, movement and strong defensive tackles while Sintes struggled to gain control. That changed late in the second when Sintes reversed a single-leg takedown, moved up and unleashed punches and damaging elbows before threatening a mounted guillotine. He took Aljarouji down quickly in the third, stayed heavy from top position and countered several leg lock attempts while mixing in elbows and choke threats. Aljarouj backed him up late but did little with the position.
In a flyweight division that is on fire right now, I don’t know where these two fit.
Aljarouj can fight Alibi Idrisif he remains unstoppable while Sintes can fight With Nyamjargal Tumendemberel

After being eliminated in Season 8 of the Contender Series, Matthew Duclos took four wins to get a call from the UFC — and he delivered a nasty knockout.
It wasn’t flawless, but Duclos delivered when it mattered. Luis Felipe Dias was the more effective fighter for much of the opening round, pressuring Duclos, attacking his body with powerful shots and hurting him with short left hands. Duclos stayed patient behind the jab and continued to look for counters despite being forced into reverse. When Dias surged forward again at the end of the round, Duclos drove him with a beautiful left hook that promptly dropped the Brazilian. He followed up with hammer fists to stop (watch the highlights).
Duclos showed some defensive frailties and absorbed too much early damage, but his composure and counterattacks made for a great comeback.
Despite being overmatched early on, Duclos should have a fun UFC career.
He can fight Mansur Abdul-Malik next.
Delphine Benouaich & Sofia Montenegro
Perhaps the most impressive performance, because it was so unexpected, was from the French fighter and TUF 34 veteran Delphine Benouaichwho turned his debut into controlled violence. He paced furiously from the opening bell, pounding consistently Sofia Montenegro with three, four and five punch combinations while mixing in uppercuts, body kicks and inside leg kicks. Montenegro hit enough counters to show that Benouaich’s aggressive style carries a defensive risk, but she was unable to match the Frenchwoman’s volume. In the second round, Benouaich dropped Montenegro with a crushing right hand, got to his feet and opened up a terrific cut with punches and elbows. When Montenegro dodged the punishment, Benouaich took him back and applied a rear naked choke that rendered him unconscious (watch the highlights).
It was a violent and all-encompassing debut, and he signaled dissent. She was another TUF 34 fighter signed straight from the show — before the finale — and it was a good decision because she’s awesome, especially at a time when women’s MMA is under the microscope.
I’d give Benouaichi the former title challenger Amanda Lemos on his second outing.
As for Montenegro, he just ran into a better hitter, but proved he’s ready to throw — which is why he was handed the Contender Series loss.
