“Decent” Mike Malott was easily the biggest winner as a Canadian on Saturday night at UFC Edmonton achieved a highlight reel KO that put Joaquin Buckley cold outside in the main event. On the same day, the UFC also confirmed that they will soon return to the country for a major event.
According to the promotion, UFC 226 will take place on January 30, 2027 at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.
No fight has been officially announced yet, but Malott’s headline win in Edmonton makes him an obvious candidate for the card. Dana White doesn’t usually like the idea of booking fights right after the event, but he showed interest after. awarding Malotti a $100,000 performance bonus.
“We’ll figure it out later, but it would make perfect sense if (Mike Malott is) good,” White said at UFC Edmonton’s post-fight press conference.

Malott, who appeared to have avoided major injury due to the two-round bout, also confirmed that he plans to return for UFC 336.
“All of them (the middleweight contenders) excite me. I got my phone here so I’m waiting for the call,” Malott said of his return to the newly official UFC 336 card in his home country. “Hopefully it won’t be for a couple of weeks. I want to rest a little bit, but yeah, I’m ready to defend Canada” in the Octagon.
“So when I come back in January, expect me to be there.”
Malott has now won five in a row and eight of his nine bouts with the UFC to improve his overall record to 15-2-1. This includes two bonus winning stoppage wins Buckley and Gilbert Burns this year.
As with all numbered events, UFC 336 should feature at least one title fight.
