England manager Thomas Tuchel believes Harry Kane he deserves to win the Ballon d’Or and would have no problem picking the Bayern Munich star for the 2030 World Cup.
Kane is the likely favorite to win football’s most illustrious individual award, which will be presented at a ceremony in London on October 26.
The former Tottenham star scored 61 goals in helping Bayern to a Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double last season, before finding the net six times as England reached the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup.
England will return to action on Saturday at home UEFA Nations League against world champions Spain on Saturday and, speaking ahead of that game, Tuchel has backed Kane’s bid for the award.
Asked in an interview with ITV if Kane is his choice for the award, Tuchel replied: “After this season, yes.
“More than seventy goals, three titles with Bayern Munich, semi-finals in the World Cup and the Champions League.
“He’s getting better and better. I think he’s added a level of physicality to his game.
“He’s so committed to the high press and so committed to being involved in every part of the game. Whether it’s in the deep formation, whether it’s finishing, whether it’s the setup game in the middle block, whether it’s on defense. He’s just the complete package.”
Should Kane win the Ballon d’Or, he would become the first Englishman to do so since Michael Owen in 2001.
Kane will be 36 when the 2030 World Cup kicks off, which will be held in Spain, Portugal and Morocco with centenary matches held in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.
But Tuchel does not see this as a barrier to participating in a fourth World Cup final.
“Yes, no problem. Age is age,” said Tuchel. “It doesn’t matter. It’s just about quality, and it has a long way to go.”
