Thomas Tuchel has revealed he wishes he had eaten some grass afterwards England’s World Cup victory by 3-2 Mexico
England defeated the 10-man host nation in Mexico City in a last-16 tie last summer, producing one of the best overseas performances in the country’s history.
“I texted a friend after the game and just wrote: ‘I regret not eating grass after the game to keep some of this in my body forever’. That was the feeling. That was the moment,” Tuchel said.
England prepares for the next challenge
England return to action later this month against world champions Spain in the Nations League.
They also face Croatia and the Czech Republic during the upcoming international break, with Tuchel expected to announce his squad on Friday.
The England manager believes the Nations League offers an important opportunity to prepare for Euro 2028.
“It is very difficult to prepare for a World Cup in the USA, but I think it is possible to prepare for a Euro and we are preparing for the Nations League Tier One,” he said.
“The goal is to have 10 more games. We had 10 games in the United States – eight wins, a draw, a painful loss. This is something to build on that.
“We all have the right to hold our heads high and go with courage and positivity to the next challenges. We have four games in the Nations League, and that is where the focus is.”
